Buying produce in bulk, albeit economical in theory, just doesn’t reap the expected gains when you’re a household of two. In an eager gesture to eat better-for-you-sugars we recently purchased one-pound of blackberries from Costco. But, crafting a berry-filled menu just didn’t appeal to me. Genuinely concerned about the berries wasteful fate we saved them from spoiling by making blackberry infused vodka, naturally.

We concocted two batches steeped with handfuls of homegrown herbs and earl grey tea: one with thyme, rosemary and basil and the other with mint in place of basil. The result was a delightfully floral elixir with a nuanced depth and complexity thanks to the tea. Though a wonderful base for cocktails—and a truly thoughtful hostess gift—we couldn’t help but appreciate it straight on the rocks.
